General Admission FAQs

Common questions about FYJC eligibility, boards, streams, and the admission process.

General FYJC Maharashtra Admission FAQs

Here is a general FYJC Maharashtra admission FAQ in simple English, covering the most common beginner doubts.

1. What is FYJC admission?

FYJC means First Year Junior College, which is Class 11 under the Maharashtra State Board (HSC). Admission is done through a central online system on mahafyjcadmissions.in for big cities and many districts in Maharashtra.

2. Which board students can apply for FYJC in Maharashtra?

These students can apply:

  • Maharashtra State Board (SSC).
  • CBSE, ICSE, NIOS.
  • Other state boards and some international boards (IB, IGCSE etc.).

Non‑Maharashtra boards may need extra documents like Migration/Passing Certificates as per rules.

3. What are the main streams available?

There are three main streams in FYJC:

  • Science (PCMB / PCM / PCB / Bifocal / IT).
  • Commerce (with or without Maths, with or without IT).
  • Arts (Humanities, with various subject combinations).

Some colleges also offer MCVC / Vocational / Bifocal options under HSC.

4. What is the official website for FYJC Maharashtra admissions?

The official portal is mahafyjcadmissions.in, which you should open directly or from trusted government links. Avoid old or unofficial sites; every year, updated timetable and booklets are posted only on this portal.

5. What is Part‑1 and Part‑2 in the FYJC form?

  • Part‑1 = Student Registration + Application Form (personal, school, category, address, etc.).
  • Part‑2 = Option Form / CAP Form where you select stream + colleges + preferences for CAP rounds.

Part‑1 must be completed and verified before Part‑2 opens for you.

6. When does FYJC admission process start?

Every year, after SSC results, the School Education Department publishes:

  • An Information Booklet (Mahitipustika).
  • A schedule/timetable for registration, verification, CAP rounds, quota rounds, etc.

For 2025‑26, online registration began in May, and CAP rounds continued into July/August as per timetable.

7. How many CAP rounds are there?

Typically there are:

  • CAP Round 1.
  • CAP Round 2.
  • CAP Round 3 (and sometimes additional/special rounds).

Before CAP, there may be a Zero Round / Quota Round for In‑house, Minority, Management seats in many regions.

8. Can I participate in CAP if I used quota (In‑house/Minority)?

Yes, you should do both if you are eligible:

  • Apply for in‑house/minority/management in Zero Round if applicable.
  • ALSO fill CAP Option Form for general rounds as backup.

But once you confirm admission in one college and don’t cancel within allowed time, continuing in CAP rounds may not be allowed; follow that year’s booklet carefully.

9. How is the merit list prepared?

Merit list is based mainly on Class 10 marks (percentage) and reservation rules:

  • Students are sorted by percentage within each category (Open, SC, ST, OBC, etc.).
  • Seats are filled according to preferences given in Part‑2 and available seat matrix.

For bifocal/minority/in‑house seats, separate smaller merit lists may be made at the college level.

10. What is a cut‑off?

Cut‑off is the minimum percentage at which the last seat in a particular college/stream is filled in a given round. Cut‑offs are different for each category and stream and change every round depending on applications and available seats.

11. Can I change my stream after getting admission?

Changing stream after admission is very difficult and strictly depends on:

  • College rules.
  • Availability of seats in that stream.
  • Timing (usually very early in term).

Board/college normally expect you to select the right stream at the time of admission; never depend on guaranteed change later.

12. What if I don’t get any college in Round 1?

If you are not allotted any seat in Round 1:

  • You will automatically be considered in Round 2 and further rounds (if you have filled the option form correctly).
  • In the next rounds, you can often edit your preferences, add more/lower‑cut‑off colleges, and then lock again before the deadline.

Always use later rounds to add safer options if your marks are low.

13. If I get a seat in Round 1, do I have to take it?

If you are allotted a college in a CAP round, you usually have these options:

  • Confirm admission by visiting the college, paying fees, and submitting documents within the given dates.
  • Or do not confirm (then you are treated as not admitted, and your seat may go to someone else in the next round).

Rules on “betterment” (upgrading to a better college in next round after taking first admission) change from year to year, so read the current booklet.

14. How many colleges can I choose in the Option Form (Part‑2)?

The exact maximum is given on portal, but typically you can choose up to around 10 preferences per CAP round.

Beginner advice:

  • Don’t keep only 2–3 top colleges; add a mix of top + realistic + safe options.
  • Last few preferences should be nearby unaided/self‑finance colleges where cut‑off is lower, as backup.

15. What documents do I need for general admission?

At the time of confirming admission in a college, carry:

  • Original 10th marksheet + 2–3 copies.
  • Original School Leaving Certificate (LC) + copies.
  • FYJC online form printout (Part‑1 & Part‑2).
  • Aadhaar or other ID; photos.
  • Caste/EWS/NCL/special quota certificates if you claimed those.

The exact list and number of copies are given in the yearly booklet and college notice.

16. What is the registration fee and is it different from college fees?

  • Portal registration/admission processing fee is about ₹100, paid once on the FYJC website.
  • College fees (tuition + term + lab + others) are separate and are paid only after you are allotted and confirm a seat in a particular college.

Registration fee is generally non‑refundable, while college fee refund depends on time of cancellation and college rules.

17. Can I apply from outside Maharashtra?

  • Yes, students from other states/boards can apply for FYJC in Maharashtra, but they are usually treated in Open/All‑India category (no state reservation).
  • They may need Migration Certificate, Passing Certificate, and additional verification at designated centres.

Always check the latest booklet for special instructions for OMS (Outside Maharashtra State) students.

18. What is the difference between Government, Aided, Unaided, Self‑Finance colleges?

  • Government – fully run by government; lowest regulated fees.
  • Aided – private management but gets government grants; fees low–moderate, cut‑offs often high.
  • Unaided – no government funding; higher fees, usually lower cut‑off than top aided colleges.
  • Self‑Finance – special private divisions, fully fee‑based, often for IT/Bifocal etc.; high fees.

Type does not change basic eligibility; it mainly changes fees and cut‑off.

19. What if I miss all rounds and don’t get admission?

If you miss registration or all CAP rounds, or still don’t get a seat:

  • Government may sometimes conduct special/spot rounds, depending on remaining seats and instructions for that year.
  • Some unaided/self‑finance colleges may take late admissions against vacant seats following department guidelines.

But there is no guarantee; always try to register and participate in the main schedule on time.

20. Where can I see all official rules and updates?

Always check:

  • Official FYJC portal: mahafyjcadmissions.in → “Information Booklet / Mahitipustika”, “Timetable”, “Notices”.
  • Education news updates for date changes and new circulars.
