FYJC Admission Documents: Frequently Asked Questions

This is a beginner-friendly FAQ about documents for FYJC Maharashtra admission, with clear questions and simple English answers.

1. What are the main documents required for FYJC admission?

For almost every student, these documents are needed:

  • Class 10 marksheet – Original or online copy (SSC/CBSE/ICSE/other)
  • Original School Leaving Certificate (LC) or Transfer Certificate
  • Aadhaar Card or any valid government ID (student)
  • Recent passport size photographs (as per college requirement)
  • FYJC online form printout – Part 1 verified + Part 2 locked (from mahafyjcadmissions.in)

Important: Always carry original + 1-2 photocopies of each document when you go to the allotted college for admission.

2. Do I need all documents while filling the online form?

During online Part 1 form, the portal mainly needs:

  • 10th marks details (seat number/marksheet)
  • Basic ID details
  • Scanned copies of some documents (if available)

Many documents (original LC, physical certificates) are checked later at college, but it is better to keep clear mobile scans/PDFs ready for upload (max size usually 1 MB per file).

3. Which documents must I upload online?

Common uploads asked on the FYJC portal:

DocumentWhen Required
Class 10 marksheetAll students (scan/clear photo)
School Leaving Certificate (LC)If already received
Caste Certificate + Non-Creamy LayerFor OBC/VJ/NT/SBC/SEBC reservation
EWS CertificateIf claiming EWS
Disability CertificateIf Divyang/PWD quota
Special Quota CertificatesOrphan/Project affected/Freedom fighter/Defence/Sports

Note: If a document is not available yet (like LC or some certificates), you can usually still complete the form but must show originals at the time of final admission. Always confirm from the current year booklet.

4. I am from CBSE/ICSE/other board. Do I need extra documents?

Yes, non-SSC (other board) students often need:

  • 10th marksheet (board specific)
  • Passing Certificate (if your board issues separate pass certificate)
  • Migration Certificate from your board/school (many colleges ask this for non-Maharashtra or other boards)

Tip: Check your allotted college's notice – some upload guidelines specifically mention "Migration Certificate and Passing Certificate for candidates from boards other than Maharashtra State Board".

5. What documents are required for reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC/NT/SBC/SEBC)?

If you are applying under any reservation category, generally you need:

  • Caste Certificate issued by Government of Maharashtra
  • Caste Validity Certificate (especially for ST and some other categories)
  • Non-Creamy Layer Certificate for VJ/NT/OBC/SBC/SEBC categories (valid for the current period)

⚠️ Warning: Without proper caste and Non-Creamy Layer documents, you cannot get reserved-category benefits. Your admission may be treated as Open/General.

6. What is Non-Creamy Layer Certificate? Is it compulsory?

What is NCL?

Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) certificate proves that your OBC/VJ/NT/SBC/SEBC family income and status are within reservation limits. "Creamy layer" families cannot take OBC-type reservation.

Is it Compulsory?

For FYJC, if you claim VJA/NTB/NTC/NTD/OBC/SBC/SEBC seats, you usually must have NCL. Otherwise, you are treated as Open (no reservation).

How to Get It?

NCL is issued by Revenue authorities (Tehsildar/SDO) in Maharashtra and needs:

  • Caste proof
  • Income documents
  • Other required documents

Tip: Apply early because it can take time to process.

7. What documents are required for EWS category?

For EWS (Economically Weaker Section) reservation you need:

  • EWS Eligibility Certificate in prescribed government format (based on family income and property)
  • Usual ID and address proofs asked by local authority for EWS

Important: Without this approved EWS certificate, you cannot get EWS quota benefit even if your income is low.

8. What documents are required for Orphan quota?

For Orphan category (1% reservation in many schemes), you must show:

  • Official certificate from Women and Child/Women & Family Welfare Department or competent government authority stating that you are an orphan

Note: Only with this certificate will FYJC/college accept your Orphan claim. Otherwise, you will be treated under your regular category (SC/ST/OBC/EWS/General).

9. What documents are needed for Defence/Ex-Servicemen quota?

If you are ward of Defence/Ex-Servicemen, typical documents are:

  • Service Certificate or Discharge Certificate from Defence authorities
  • Certificate from District Sainik Board / Zilla Sainik Board (as mentioned in rules)
  • Transfer order and joining report if using transferable defence employee quota

Tip: Check the specific format in current FYJC booklet or your chosen college's notice.

10. What documents are needed for Freedom Fighter/Project affected quota?

Freedom Fighter Quota:

  • Collector's certificate/relevant document proving you are a nominated dependent of a recognized Freedom Fighter

Project Affected (PAP):

  • Certificate from District Collector that your family land/house is affected by government project (dam, highway, etc.)

⚠️ Warning: These are strict, document-based categories. Do not claim them without correct certificates.

11. What documents are needed for Sports quota?

For sports quota, you usually need:

  • Certificates of sports achievements at District/State/National/International level
  • Certificate issued by District Sports Officer or recognized sports authority (as specified)

Note: Only high-level achievements recognized by official bodies are counted. School-level certificates alone usually do not give sports quota.

12. Do I need Domicile Certificate for FYJC Maharashtra?

General Answer:

Many general FYJC admissions do not strictly demand domicile certificate if you studied 10th in Maharashtra. Your SSC record itself works as proof of schooling in the state.

When It Helps:

Some colleges and some years' booklets suggest keeping Maharashtra Domicile ready (especially for some reserved categories or later CET/degree admissions).

Recommendation: If you already have a Maharashtra Domicile certificate, keep it with you during admission to be safe.

13. Is Aadhaar Card compulsory?

  • Most document lists mention Aadhaar Card or other Government ID as essential identity proof for the student
  • Aadhaar is strongly recommended and often preferred for online verification

Alternatives:

If Aadhaar is not available, some colleges may accept another government photo ID, but Aadhaar is preferred.

14. What format/size should scanned documents be in?

As per FYJC online guidelines:

AspectRequirement
File SizeUsually maximum 1 MB per document
Format for PhotosJPEG/JPG/PNG for photo and signature
Format for DocumentsPDF or JPG for marksheet, LC, certificates
QualityScan/Photo should be clear, readable, not cut from edges

How to Reduce File Size:

  • Use mobile apps or online tools to compress
  • Send to yourself on WhatsApp (it reduces size automatically)
  • Then upload the compressed version

15. I don't have my original 10th marksheet yet. Can I still apply?

Yes, You Can Start:

You can usually start FYJC online form using online marks statement/provisional marks as soon as board result is declared.

What to Do Later:

When original marksheet is issued by your board/school, you must show the original and submit photocopies at the time of college admission.

Tip: Always read current year's booklet to see if they allow provisional documents temporarily.

16. I don't have School Leaving Certificate (LC) yet. What to do?

During Form Filling:

  • Online form can be completed without uploading LC at first
  • LC is mandatory at college admission time, not always at form-filling time

If LC is Delayed:

  • Keep regular touch with your 10th school
  • You cannot finalize admission in new junior college without original LC

Important: Start the LC process early to avoid last-minute issues.

17. Do I need both original and photocopies?

Yes, at the Allotted Junior College:

You must bring:

Originals of:

  • Marksheet
  • LC
  • Caste/EWS/NCL certificates
  • Special quota certificates
  • ID proof

Photocopies:

  • At least 2-3 self-attested photocopies of each important document
  • Many colleges keep photocopies in their record

Note: Colleges verify originals and keep copies. Without original verification, your admission will not be confirmed.

18. What happens if my name or date of birth is different in documents?

Potential Issues:

If spelling/date of birth/parents' names do not match between marksheet, LC, Aadhaar, etc., you may be asked for:

  • Correction
  • Additional affidavit

Get corrections done before FYJC admission where possible:

  • Update Aadhaar
  • Rectify school record

This avoids future issues in HSC, CET, passport, etc.

19. What if I submit wrong or fake documents?

Serious Consequences:

Submitting fake/inaccurate caste, EWS, NCL, sports, orphan, defence, or any certificate is a serious offense.

College and Education Department Can:

  • Cancel your admission
  • Remove your name from merit list
  • Take legal/disciplinary action in serious cases

⚠️ Critical Warning: Always apply with correct documents only, even if that means you go in Open category.

20. Where can I see the official document list every year?

Official Sources:

  1. FYJC Website: mahafyjcadmissions.in

    • Section: "Information Booklet / Mahitipustika / Manuals"
  2. College Notices: Check your allotted college's website

  3. Education Portals: Big education portals' FYJC document pages

Important: Always trust the government booklet as the final authority.
