| Humanities / UPSC / Law / Media / Psychology | Arts |
Select Medium
Available medium options (region-based):

Recommendation: Most students choose English medium as teaching in most junior colleges is primarily in English.
Save Your Selection
- Select your Stream + Medium combination
- Click "Save & Next"
Note: If you already selected the stream in Round 1, it may auto-populate in Round 2, but you should still click save to confirm.
Step 4: Open "Choose Junior College"
This is the most important section of Part-2.
- Click on "Choose Junior College"
- You'll see two main panels:
- Search & Filter Area: District, area, medium, stream filters
- Your Preferences List: Choice 1, Choice 2, Choice 3, etc.
You can typically add up to 10 colleges (portal limit may vary).
Step 5: Three Ways to Search for Colleges
Method 1: Search by Area (Recommended)
- Select your District (e.g., Mumbai Suburban, Pune, Nagpur)
- In the Area / Locality field, type your area name:
- Examples: "Chandivali", "Vikhroli", "Powai", "Andheri"
- Click "Search"
- Browse colleges in that area
Method 2: Search by College Name
- Type the college name's first part in the search box:
- Examples: "SIES", "Patkar", "RD National", "Mithibai"
- Click "Search"
- Select from the results
Method 3: Search by Choice Code (Fastest)
- Every college has a unique Choice Code (available in the information booklet)
- Enter the Choice Code directly
- The college will appear immediately
- Click "Add"
College Information Display
Each college row shows buttons for:
- Intake / Seat Details: Total seats and category-wise availability
- Details: Address, contact number, UDISE code
- Fees: Tuition fees, term fees, IT fees, etc.
Step 6: Check Seats & Fees Before Adding
1. Check Seat Availability
Click "Intake" to see:
- Total sanctioned seats
- In-house / Management / Minority reserved seats
- Remaining seats for Open / Reserved categories
- Previous year's cut-off (if available)
2. Check Fee Structure
| College Type | Fee Range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Aided Colleges | Lower fees (₹5,000 - ₹15,000/year) | Government-aided, limited seats |
| Unaided / Self-Finance | Higher fees (₹30,000 - ₹1,00,000/year) | More seats, higher costs |
⚠️ Critical Warning: Always check fees BEFORE adding a college. After allotment, you cannot refuse admission citing high fees without losing your seat and facing penalties.
Step 7: Add Colleges to Your Preference List
- When you find a suitable college, click the "Add" / "+" button next to it
- The college will appear in your preference list as Choice 1, Choice 2, etc.
Example Search Flow:
- Search "Chandivali" → Add 1-2 good colleges
- Search "Vikhroli" → Add realistic options
- Search "Powai" → Add backup choices
- Continue until you have 7-10 colleges
Step 8: Set Your Preference Order
The preference order determines where the system tries to allot you a seat.
How to Arrange:
- Use "Move Up" and "Move Down" arrows to rearrange colleges
- Ensure Choice 1 is the college where:
- You genuinely want admission AND
- If allotted, you will definitely take it
Recommended Preference Structure:
| Position | Type | Strategy |
|---|---|---|
| Choice 1-3 | Dream/Ambitious | Colleges slightly above your expected cut-off |
| Choice 4-7 | Realistic | Colleges matching your percentage/rank |
| Choice 8-10 | Backup | Nearby unaided or low-cutoff colleges |
Warning: Never put a random "top college" in Choice 1 if you don't actually want it. If allotted, you must take admission or lose your chance in that round.
Step 9: Removing a College
If you want to remove a college from your list:
- Move that college to the bottom using "Move Down"
- Click the dustbin/delete icon next to it
- Confirm deletion in the popup
Step 10: Save Your Choices
After arranging your preference list:
- Click the "Save Choices" button at the bottom
- You'll see a confirmation message: "Preferences saved successfully"
Important:
- Save ≠ Lock
- Saving is NOT final submission
- You can edit and re-save until you lock the form
Step 11: Lock Your Option Form (Critical Step)
Without locking, your name will NOT appear in the merit list.
Locking Process:
-
Click on "Lock Option Form" in the menu
-
A summary page appears showing:
- Part-1 personal details
- Part-2 preference list
- Round name (CAP Round 1/2/3/4)
-
Verify everything one last time:
- Choice 1 is the college you really want
- No unwanted colleges in the list
- No high-fee colleges added accidentally
- Preference order is correct
- Stream and medium are correct
-
Tick the declaration checkbox
-
Click "Lock Option Form"
-
Confirm in the popup
After Locking:
- Status should show "Complete and Locked"
- If it shows "Unlocked", the lock didn't register - try again
- Take a screenshot of the locked status page for your records
⚠️ Critical: Once locked, you CANNOT edit your preferences for that round.
Step 12: Don't Wait for the Last Day
Why Lock Early?
- Portal experiences heavy traffic on the last day
- Server may slow down or crash
- You might face technical issues
- Risk of missing the deadline
Strong Recommendation: Complete and lock your form at least 1-2 days before the deadline.
Step 13: How Many Colleges Should You Add?
Recommended Number: 7-10 Colleges
| Number of Choices | Risk Level | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| 1-3 colleges | High Risk | Not recommended - very limited options |
| 4-6 colleges | Medium Risk | Acceptable if choices are realistic |
| 7-10 colleges | Low Risk | Recommended - good mix of options |
Ideal Mix:
- 2-3 Ambitious: Dream colleges (slightly above your expected cut-off)
- 3-4 Realistic: Colleges matching your percentage
- 1-2 Backup: Nearby unaided or low-cutoff colleges
Step 14: Logout After Locking
After successfully locking your form:
- Click "Logout" in the top-right corner
- Close the browser
Important: Always logout, especially if using shared computers (cafés, libraries) to prevent unauthorized changes.
What Happens After Locking?
Merit List Processing:
- Merit List Declaration: Department processes all locked forms and declares merit list
- Allotment List: Based on merit and preferences, seats are allotted
- Check Your Status: Login to see if you got a seat
- College Reporting: If allotted, visit the college within specified dates
If You Get a Seat:
- Visit the allotted college with original documents
- Pay fees and confirm admission
- Your admission is locked to that college
If You Don't Get a Seat:
- Participate in the next CAP round
- Fill fresh preferences (can be same or different)
- Try again with adjusted college choices
Common Mistakes to Avoid
| Mistake | Consequence | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Not checking fees before adding | Forced to pay high fees or lose seat | Always click "Fees" button before adding |
| Adding random college as Choice 1 | Stuck with unwanted college | Only put colleges you genuinely want |
| Not locking the form | Name doesn't appear in merit list | Always lock before deadline |
| Waiting for last day | Server crash, missed deadline | Lock 1-2 days early |
| Adding only 2-3 colleges | Very low chance of getting seat | Add 7-10 colleges |
| Not saving before locking | All preferences lost | Click "Save Choices" first |
| Forgetting to logout | Someone else can edit your form | Always logout after locking |
